 Wooden Box Project 2014

M. Jane Hastings

Art is not separate from my life, it sits beside me everyday

Full Time Woman, Mother, Artist, Wife, Performer, Educator and
Lifetime Surrealist

I have been an artist my entire life but it is only within the past 15 years that I began teaching art. In many ways I have found this educational experience to be as fulfilling and satisfying as making art. Like a journey to a foreign land I have a map (a lesson plan) but some of my most exciting lessons have been off the beaten path. I enjoy the daily challenges, the adventures and the growth that comes from being an artist and a teaching artist. Art can embrace change, reflect our interior world, challenge ideas and look forward while valuing the past. It is this journey of discovery and growth that keeps my creative suitcases packed to overflowing.

Baseball Diary

The Spring of 2016 William Fuller told me he was going to create a series of Anthologies to celebrate Baseball Diary, not an easy task. This small press publication 82-91 was important in my development of a collage language. I am now planning to scan and document all of the covers and the content art...a trip down memory lane! Enjoy
(Updated 2020 with completed Anthology covers too)

During my visit, I got to spend some time drawing and creating with my sister's two wonderful kids...lots of imaginative fun...

FT at the Virginia Museum of Fine Art

In Feb I went to visit my parents in VA. Mom and I spent a day touring the Virginia Museum of Fine Art. They have a wonderful space and some great pieces. This is one of my favorite by the artist Fred Tomaselli,
entitled Woodpecker (2008). The collage and painted details are a true inspiration.
